Today, my story is about when I was a new leader and disaster struck. I had a great little team. We were selling over the minimums to qualify every month, and our team was growing. I thought I was on the path to growing to the next level in promoting my first level leader. I had my eye on 2 women, the strongest one was my top seller! She was a go-getter, she was in an area where
hardly anyone knew about our products, she had her first 3 team members and was eager to move up to that Manager position. Then, one day she got mad at the company and she QUIT!
I was shocked! I really didn’t think she would quit! I really wasn’t prepared! I really couldn’t understand why anyone would walk away from a great business opportunity especially when she had a whole new area to open up.
What I realized after the fact, and they say “hindsight is a beautiful thing,” was I probably could have prevented this if I’d been communicating with her the right way. She got mad at the company over a very small point in selling our samples. I didn’t know she was talking with customer service (not communicating with me) and the response she received was the catalyst that led her to those words, “I
quit!” There was nothing I could do (or say) that would make her change her mind, and so I lost a great team member, and a great friend.
So, after that experience, I decided I had better have a communication system. A system where my team members could connect with me and know I would be available. I set up my “open door” policy communication system. It was a system where the team new how and when I was available to help them with any struggles and concerns. And as our team grew, and more technology came on board the system
changed a little, but ONE thing that didn’t change was being CONSISTENT with my communication.
This week on my You tube channel I’ve started a new series on my TOP 3 ways to communicate with your team! Here’s the first video where you’ll learn important ways stay in touch with your team every week! Most importantly, you’ll learn how you set this up as a system that helps you stay consistent!
