It’s Spring,, time to plant seeds!

I hope you’re having a great finish to the end of March! It’s the end of the first quarter of 2019. I love it when I talk to my coaching clients and they immediately tell me, I’m all set for the end of the month, we’ve hit our minimums and building on our maximums.

This week I had a fantastic coaching session with one of my private clients and we talked about decluttering her business because it’s SPRING! Oh my she came up with FIVE big tasks to help her hit her goals by conference.

I am a true believer in the proverb, “As you sow, so shall you reap.” In a direct sales business, planting seeds is the essence of building a loyal customer base. Planting seeds also brings you happy and consistent hostesses, and of course, planting seeds is the absolute key to successfully recruiting a dynamic team.

Most people don’t understand that it’s crucial to plant seeds in our business without a definite outcome in mind. It’s about sharing experiences and the little things you love about your business and watering and fertilizing that seed by following up to nurture and build the relationship.

So many times, I see direct sellers get so discouraged because they’ve belonged to a group or organization and they feel they’re not getting any immediate outcome, and that’s because they are not planting seeds to build solid friendships and relationships before business occurs.

Planting seeds involves getting to know a person, spending time over coffee or even lunch and simply staying in touch until the know, like and trust factor kicks in and that person is ready or interested in buying your products. Once they love your products they’ll love to be a hostess and book a show, and once they are sold on you and your products they will be ready to join your team.

Remember, the saying, “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” It’s a matter of showing people you care by being interested in their story and consistently planting subtle seeds about your business.

The trick in planting seeds is getting to know people by building a friendship first and then finding a reason why your company would benefit her and her family. When you are aware of the reason, you plant the seed with a short statement, like:

“you might think about looking at (company name.)”

You have not asked her to join. You have not been pushy or salesy, you have simply planted a seed with this statement.

Seed #1. When meeting people for the first time, don’t “firehose” them with too much information, plant seeds about your business that prompts people to ask you questions. e.g. Refer to a benefit about your product. If someone compliments you on your skin, your outfit, your accessory, your health, thank them for the compliment and let them know it’s your product that makes you look or feel great. Planting just one benefit about your product will prompt people to ask you more questions.

Seed #2. At networking or social events when people ask you what do you do, answer with a simple one-line seed planter. “I own my own (fashion, skin care, organizing) business.” Again, this prompts people to ask more you more questions without you spending 2 to 3 minutes rattling off tons of mindless information that people don’t want to hear.

Seed #3. Plant booking seeds everywhere you go. How? Share success stories from your last party and relate a humorous or heart felt story of someone you met. Stories pique people’s interest and you let people know that you are in the “party business.”

Seed #4. Confidently plant booking seeds upfront at your parties. Describe how your hostess program works in detail. Specifically plant the seed and say, “Ladies, tonight I’m going to ask each of you if you’d like to have a fun get-together with your friends and get some great free product.”

Seed #5. A great booking seed at your parties is to let everyone know how much your previous hostess earned in free product! This shows the value of being a hostess with you.

Spring is here! Start today and plant seeds immediately! Build friendships. Nurture relationships. Every seed you plant will result in business in the near future.
