This story is about the power of follow-up! Alice lived in Denver and was an executive for a large non-profit organization traveling around the world. She attended a high powered corporate meeting and was impressed with a colleague’s outfit …read story here!

A Productivity Method

This week I’m working 45 Direct sellers in a private Team Building training, as well as training with 500 consultants in a special social media event with Cinchshare. One of the universal struggle I hear day in and day out is being overwhelmed andd not knowing where to begin each day.

There are two words I share with them.
#1 word is PLAN!
#2 word is Pomodoro!
The Pomodoero technique was created by an Italian who named it the Pomodoro technique after his Italian pomodoro (tomato) kitchen timer he had when he was a student in college.

So, this technique is very simple. It helps you work in focused sprints throughout the day. You don’t need expensive software or fancy apps all you need is paper, a pen and a kitchen timer.

THE POMODORO IS ABOUT A 25 MINUTE TIME PERIOD WHERE YOU choose something from your to-do list for the day, and you focus on getting it done for 25 minutes. You actually set your timer and you make time your friend, not your enemy

Instead of feeling anxiety about not getting everything done, you set a time for 25 minutes and completely focus on the ONE THING you want to accomplish. When the timer rings at the end of the 25 mins and you’re still working, it doesn’t mean that you have failed to finish.. On the contrary, it means you have completed a focused time of 25 minutes ignoring any distractions.

You take a break and then to finish the task you set the timer for another 25 mins. Every time the timer rings you have done 25 minutes of focused energy.. You take a break, you stand and stretch and go back to it if you need to do more.

I CALL THEM POMS and I have developed POMS for my clients. We do
  • Follow-up Customer service Poms (25 minutes of focused time)
  • Follow-up Hostess Coaching Poms
  • Booking Poms
  • Team communication Poms
  • Email checking Poms
  • Calendar control Poms
  • Customer Newsletter Poms

I am a BIG FAN of using this technique and everyone I share it with, has great results. It’s helps you focus on ONE TASK and getting it accomplished. Taking the breaks are important, they help you re-group and walking around keeps your body healthy because you’re not sitting for more than 25 minutes. If you try this technique, then message me how you like it.   I would love to hear from you.
