On one of my recent leadership calls the leaders were lamenting about hitting their September goals. I was hearing
"There's no way we'll
hit our September goals"
"We'll definitely come
in shy of our September goals"
"Team Sales are super
low."
"We are in a hole."
It reminds me of the saying, "On the road to success, the hurdles are
many. "
Sometimes we think we
are the only one who has obstacles to overcome. But, really, think about it. Everyone has some kind of struggle, some
obstacle to hold them back. And we can
choose to hang on to that obstacle or choose to find ways "around" it.
These are the three
areas I turn to when faced with an obstacle.
#1 FOCUS.
I focus on what I do have - not on what I don't have. I believe we should use our talents, strengths and blessings to our advantage. Get creative and ask for help if we need it.
#2 PATIENCE.
Be in it for the "long haul."
Sometimes, having the patience to wait it out, determines whether the
obstacle will stay with you or go away.
If you're truly passionate about your business, your secret to growth,
is knowing that you will achieve your success down the road.
#3 PERSISTENCE. Napoleon Hill, says in "Think & Grow
Rich," Persistence is fighting on in the face of discouragement. He
teaches you how to develop persistence by creating a definite purpose backed by
a burning desire for it's fulfillment. He says, "The magnificent reward for all who learn
the steps to persistence is the privilege of writing ones own ticket and making life
yield whatever price is asked." (This book is a "must" read for all entrepreneurs.)
So, next on my leadership
call, I asked the question, "Okay. Let's look
back at your year and determine when you had your highest team sales, or your
best recruiting month, or your own highest party and what made it so
successful?"
The answers were
many, and what arose from these
discussions was excitement in sharing what had worked before and I noticed a change in everyone's attitude, and that sense of
urgency began to rise. Here's how the focus, patience and persistence kicked in when they answered the question.
#1 Now the leaders
were FOCUSED on what they "did" have. This brought the discussion around to what "could" be done to
hit September goals and they realized the opportunities that were
available to them "now."
#2 PATIENCE. The leaders' participation in the conversation proved they were
patient and in it for the long haul. Each leader shared positive actions, like
- Holding 10 minute team connecting calls
- Focus on September incentives with team
- Creative ways to increase sales with team
- Follow-up with personal business
- Consistency in communicating with team
- Keeping the Passion alive in the team
#3 PERSISTENCE. This brainstorming together as a group, helped them persist
with a sense of urgency. Everyone now had a plan of action to work on and keep their focus on hitting their September goals.
So, what holds you
back? Are you in it for the long haul? What do you do, so nothing (and I mean
nothing) holds you back from hitting team goals and growing your profitable direct
sales business?
