Aloha Friends, 

I got to read a 350 page novel in one day this week!  It’s called THE CAPE DOCTOR, by E.J. LEVY.  It’s a fascinating historical novel about a penniless Irish girl in the nineteenth century who rose to be one of the most celebrated and accomplished Doctors of her time.  It’s inspired by the life of Dr. James Miranda Barry who was born Margaret Anne Bulkley in 1795 and her journey from posing as a young man to enter medical school (women weren’t allowed.)  She/he was a brilliant medical student who became an eminent physician in Cape Town, South Africa.    I gave myself permission to read this book on a Tuesday, see it here on Instagram.  

 What does this have to do with the keys to running a successful business?    

There are three points I want to share with you today.

Key #1.   My sacred non-negotiables.

Every week I never miss my CEO appointment with myself on a Sunday. This is a non-negotiable meeting I plan every week.  I can be flexible about many things, but I ALWAYS make sure I hold this meeting.  It’s a sacred meeting to me because it’s my plan to stay on task with things I want to get done.  

This week I had an unexpected turn of events when my “back” decided to not cooperate after moving a ladder out of the garage.  The only answer to this situation was a couple of days rest.  And I mean rest!   Many times I rest, but I’m still scrolling or posting or writing blogs or having coaching conversations, but this time I had to SURRENDER to 3 days complete rest!    

This wouldn’t have been possible had I not planned my week on a Sunday.   I had my meal plan, my grocery list, my planner scheduled with appointments and events.  Things had to shift, but my business was able to keep running because I had a weekly plan in place. 

Key #2    Automated systems

In this circumstance I could have cancelled or just stopped my business, but because I had systems in place.   I was 

• able to re-arrange my calendar using my Calendly calendar
• Delegate and publish my weekly text tips.
• Schedule my posts on Cinchshare for the week
• Delegate my new “Monthly Review” freebie
